Le gouvernement fera tout pour aider à faire décoller Seychelles Airlines a déclaré le ministre du Tourisme et de la Culture, M. Alain St. Ange.

Le ministre St. Ange a fait cette déclaration à Paris vendredi dernier, pendant qu’il répondait aux questions de la presse seychelloise et française sur la connectivité aérienne entre les Seychelles et l’Europe.

La déclaration du ministre fait suite aux rumeurs et à la polémique courant depuis quelques semaines, suggérant que le gouvernement essaie de délibérément bloquer l’octroie de certificat d’opération de la compagnie locale nouvellement créée. Celle-ci compte assurer la liaison directe avec de différentes villes du vieux continent, ainsi que des vols régionaux moyens courriers. Certains commentaires surtout sur les médias sociaux, ont indiqué que le ministère responsable du transport dont le ministre de tutelle, M. Joël Morgan est également président du Conseil d’Administration d’Air Seychelles, craint une concurrence directe avec la compagnie nationale.

Le chef exécutif de l’Autorité de l’Aviation Civile Gilbert Faure, a récemment rejeté ces accusations, expliquant plutôt que les démarches administratives de Seychelles Airlines sont bloquées en résultât d’un litige légal en cours. Sa société mère ‘Inter Shore Aviation Ltd’, a en effet décidé d’avoir recours à la justice après que le Bureau du Registre l‘eut interdit d’avoir le mot ‘Seychelles’ dans son nom. Certaines sources laissent comprendre que le label ‘Seychelles’ est réservée aux entreprises gouvernementales, alors que Seychelles Airlines insiste que l’enregistrement avait été dans un premier temps accepté.

« Le gouvernement a demandé au Ministère des Affaires Internes et du Transport de faire tout ce qui est nécessaire pour aider Seychelles Airlines à résoudre ses problèmes administratifs. On n’est pas là pour limiter les avions. On a ouvert notre espace aérienne. On préfère qu’une compagnie seychelloise en profite au lieu d’une compagnie du Pole Nord. On ne veut pas couper des ailes à Seychelles Airlines pour l’empêcher de décoller », a dit M. St Ange.

Interrogé sur le sujet, le chef exécutif d’Air Seychelles, M. Manoj Papa a déclaré que l’arrivée de Seychelles Airlines ne pose absolument aucun problème au transporteur national.

« Air Seychelles est prêt à accepter la concurrence qui va stimuler le marché. Un autre compétiteur est donc le bien venu », a-t-il dit.

Mihin Lanka’s third flight to meet increase in demand

Mr RanatungaThe increase in the number of flights of Mihin Lanka between Seychelles and Colombo is due to the airline doing well here and because there has been significant increases in both cabin factor, outward traffic to other destinations and point to point business between the two islands.
This has resulted in opportunities for both Sri Lankans and Seychellois to travel and enjoy each other’s country with an attractive flying time between three to four hours.

The chairman and chief executive of Mihin Lanka (Private) Ltd, Nishanta Ranatunga said this while talking to Seychelles Nation journalist at his office in Colombo on the occasion of the launch of Mihin Lanka’s third weekly flight to Seychelles which arrived on Thursday afternoon.

He was accompanied by the airline’s head of commercial Rohanna Perera and Asanka Fernando, head of sales.

Seychelles flyers who wish to travel to Colombo now have an option of three flights per week to choose from.
The increased frequencies have given both the business community and leisure travellers more choices and option when booking their flights with Mihin Lanka rather than the previous two frequencies per week.

The airline has recorded increases in both passenger and cargo and the demand is increasing day by day. It has been carrying lots of goods to Seychelles, taking three tonnes of cargo per flight.

Seychelles set to host IORA tourism ministers meeting

The new Savoy Resort & Spa at Beau Vallon is set and ready to host the ministerial meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
The gathering from November 20-21 has been called under the theme ‘Tourism & Travel within the IORA’.

Alain St Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, will be the first personality to address the ministerial meeting at the official opening tomorrow. He will be followed by Ambassador K.V. Bhagirath, the secretary general of the IORA, who is expected to deliver his remarks before Minister Jean-Paul Adam, the Seychelles Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivers his keynote speech.

The ministerial meeting is expected to endorse recommendations of the IORA experts' sessions on emerging markets and networking to increase competitiveness and market promotion on the Indian Ocean tourism and travel perspectives.

Other presentations during the meeting are maximising regional development through sustainable tourism – ‘green tourism’ (by Dr Sapta Nirwandar, the former Vice-Minister for Tourism of Indonesia and the UNDP representative for Seychelles and Mauritius); bridging the gap between tourism and aviation policies - air connectivity between the islands (by Vijay Poonoosamy, the Vice-President International & Public Affairs at Etihad Airways and a representative from International Transport Forum, OECD); and developing cruise tourism in the Indian Ocean (by the chief executive of the Seychelles Ports Authority Lt Colonel Andre Ciseau and Dr Meredith Wray, the director International Centre for Responsible Tourism.

After the adoption of the ‘Seychelles Tourism Declaration’, Minister St Ange as the host of the ministerial meeting will deliver his closing address.
For the IORA's experts' preparatory meeting it is expected that it will be Anne Lafortune, the principal secretary for tourism in the Seychelles Ministry of Tourism and Culture who will be delivering the welcome remarks.

Opening remarks are expected to be delivered by Firdaus Dahlan, the director of the IORA secretariat.

That preparatory meeting will discuss several topics starting with developing tourism Industry with a lesson learned from Malaysia. This topic will be followed by a discussion on the Indian Ocean tourism and travel perspectives on emerging markets and networking to increase competitiveness and market promotion. Speakers for this topic are Pascal Viroleau, chief executive of the Vanilla Islands grouping and Kumud Sengupta, co-founder and director of Market Vision.
