President of International Court of Justice finds Mancham's book “impressive”

13-December-2014
Founding President James R. Mancham leaves Seychelles today to spend Christmas with his wife and family in Brisbane, Australia.

Mr Mancham, who regrettably had to cancel his participation at the Chief Justices of the World Conference in Lucknow, India, which is currently being hosted by the City Montessori School of Dr. Jagdish Gandhi, because of his varied commitments in Seychelles at this time and the need for a break following his recent multiple mission in Europe, on Thursday called on President James Michel at State House to wish him a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

In his recently published book, 'SEYCHELLES - The saga of a small nation navigating the cross-currents of a big world' he, of course, made the conviction statement that “President Michel is the right man, in the right place, and at the right time”.

Mr Mancham has received various endorsements for his book, including a recent one from the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), HE Judge Peter Tomka, who described the work as being “impressive”. “I have no doubt that this book will allow its readers to gain a better under¬standing of the fascinating history of the Seychelles and how it has come to be the country that it is today,” the learned Judge wrote.

Mr Mancham has said he will be back in Seychelles in mid-January 2015 to prepare for the visit to Seychelles of Paragon House Publisher Gordon L. Anderson, who will be releasing the international edition of his latest book in the USA in March 2015. “The colourful history and beauty of Seychelles has compelled me to put Seychelles on my travel priority list of the New Year,” Mr Anderson announced from his Paragon House new office in St Paul, Minneapolis, USA.

Mr Mancham has also confirmed that he has accepted the invitation of Sven-Olof Lindblad of Special Expeditions to join him on his new cruiseship, The National Geographic 'Orion', which will make its first visit to Seychelles on April 12, 2015. Mr Lindblad is the son of the "Father of Global Eco-Tourism", Lars-Eric Lindblad, who brought the Lindblad Explorer to Seychelles in 1968 when Mr Mancham was Chief Minister.

“What we have achieved together beginning 45 years ago is now part of an historical record. Tourism has flourished in the islands and, despite the challenges that go along with it, the Seychelles are still very, very beautiful and the wildlife well protected,” Mr Mancham said.
