Only 69 days left before Seychelles welcomes the top carnivals of the world to its shores to join in the three-day celebrations in the heart of its capital town Victoria.

This year, we will be celebrating the fifth anniversary of our Carnaval International de Victoria, and surely the carnival will not be the same without its theme song.

Karnaval dan Victoria is the title of Seychelles’ new song which will be the hymn of this colourful and vibrant three-day event, which makes our islands stand proud among other nations of the world.

Les inscriptions pour la 5ème édition du « Prix Musiques de l’Océan Indien » sont ouvertes jusqu’au 17 mai 2015, selon les organisateurs.

Celles-ci se font uniquement en ligne sur le site du Prix Musiques de l’Océan Indien http://prixmusiquesoceanindien.com
La fiche d’inscription, les conditions d’éligibilité ainsi que le règlement y sont actuellement à la disposition des artistes-candidats. Les producteurs délégués sont Serge Trouillet et Brigitte Dabadie.

Objectifs principaux du prix
Promouvoir les écritures musicales, favoriser la diffusion des œuvres et aider à révéler les artistes des « musiques actuelles » de l’Océan Indien. Permettre à un ou plusieurs artistes de cette zone de bénéficier d'un dispositif d'aide au développement grâce au financement mutualisé des membres fondateurs et associés.

Tanmi Production wins Seychelles carnival bid again

For a second year running, Tanmi Production has won the bid to stage this year’s Carnaval International de Victoria.

Winner of the bid was announced by chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) Sherin Naiken in the first carnival technical meeting held at the International Conference Centre.

Miss Naiken noted that two bidders submitted their proposals for the tendered bid and that Tanmi Production’s proposals were much more complete and fell within the criteria set.

Miss Naiken congratulated Tanmi Production for winning the bid for a second time in a row, after their first win in 2014.

The chief executive of Tanmi Production Joseph Sinon thanked the STB for its vote of confidence.

He said Tanmi Production has brainstormed on this fifth edition and it is looking at bringing new elements to give this year’s carnival a magical flare.

Tanmi Production comprises seven team members. The team will stage the carnival’s official opening ceremony, the parade and kiddies carnival.

Comment - we have address the corrupted workings of the international communities and Seychelles government among others for the past 30 years. Last year and the previous two Carnaval in Seychelles what it triggered from mismanagement - yet in Seychelles there are several bodies working on such topics and with the International communities and experts - their supposed benchmark. .

Their lies what triggers an earthquake

This earthquake in Nepal - some 2500 killed and the destruction - they will go on spreading and telling us their lies.

In Seychelles there are two distinct school of christian Faith and belief - Those who believe that Sabbath in on a Saturday and it is God's revered and sacred Day when you undertake nonreligious and ungodly activities what can and may ensue and those who believe the Sabbath in Sunday.

Question to the great experts had this Caranval been on another Day would that Earthquake have taken place and the loss of lives and destruction. We have covered this topic under earthquake and Tsunami elsewhere.

Anse Aux Pins primary wins top prize in Kiddies’ carnival

Anse Aux Pins primary is the winner of the second Kiddies’ carnival and the school chose for theme ‘Sweet Sweet Hats In Bloom’.
Second to last year’s winner Bel Eau, Anse Aux Pins won the top prizes of R7,500 and a trophy for best overall presentation.

Letter to the Editor - Mancham praises carnival organisers and offers some pertinent comments

There is no doubt that the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange and his associates have done an impressive job this year to bring about the Carnaval International de Victoria to an impressive level. We must therefore sincerely congratulate him and his group on their achievement in this respect.

Of course he must have received several deserving congratulatory messages in this connection. The purport of this letter is not just to offer another accolade but to elaborate constructively on certain aspects of the event with a view that we may be able to consolidate the level reached and to aim to go beyond this in future years.

Was our success to attract an increased number of participants the reason why there was perhaps too many parades along the line of drums and dancing? There are those who believe that perhaps the parades dragged a bit too long. It was like giving too much good food to anyone. While you enjoy the hors d’oeuvres and the dishes which follow you have no time to appreciate your dessert.

There are some who also believe that perhaps the visit to Seychelles of His Majesty the King of Ashanti should have constituted an event by itself and not an integral part of the carnival. Certainly while the Ghanaians in their colourful outfit provided a very special dimension to this year’s carnival, the great speech delivered by the King of Ashanti focused on serious matters dealing with world peace. At the time of Seychelles’ independence, Ugandan President Idi Amin Dada, who was the chairman of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), sought an invitation to attend the celebrations. However, he never got such an invitation because I was advised by the British Foreign Office that if President Amin came to Seychelles on the occasion with his dancing team, the Ugandan leader would have stolen the show. In this context we must put into perspective the arrival of the King of Ashanti with such a powerful group. Did we provide them with the level of attention which he and his group in shining armour expected from us? Did we find the time to host him with a special reception which take into account traditional Ashanti hospitality he must have expected?

The contribution from the United Kingdom, which in fact was the dispatch of an impressive contingent from the Notting Hll carnival, resulted in the display on many occasions of the Union Jack, yet we did not see one English face in the contingent. This leads us to another quesrtion: Where was the Tricolor? Sure the French will say that La France was represented by La Reunion, another island group of rainbow colour like ourselves. But taking into account our strong historical link with La France – a contribution which would have reminded us of this historial feature -- should not have been neglacted. Beautiful Creole songs: OK – Beautiful African songs: OK – But why not one good French song?

A carnival that had everything: colour, noise, energy, VIPs, a great array of floats, and not one but two route changes – one planned and one perhaps less so. This was my first time at the Carnaval International de Victoria and what an introduction.
